Madurai's Taekwondo couple is kicking up a record storm

When we went to their home to have a chat with the couple, the whole hall was filled with shields and awards won by them. Recently the couple has tried to set a new record of 154 kicks in a minute and it is yet to be recognized by the Guinness committee. Interestingly, Narayanan has worked as a techie in one of the leading software firms in Chennai before starting an academy in Madurai. “I started learning Taekwondo only after joining college, the sport fascinated me a lot and I started taking part in open tournaments in and around the city,” he recounts. Even when I got a job in a software company I didn't let go off the sport. In fact, after knowing my achievements in Taekwondo, I was asked by the Human Resource Manager in the company to teach self-defense classes to the women employee in free time which helped me to stay close with the sport. City-based  Taekwondo player B Sai Deepak , who fought against all odds to raise funds to play international competitions, has won the silver medal in the recently concluded British Open  Taekwondo  Championship 2019 in Manchester. The 23-year-old Hyderabadi boy bagged the silver in the Speed Kicking category. A delighted Deepak dedicated his medal to all the well-wishers who helped raise funds for him to be able to participate in the tournament. “Today, I’m able to proudly display this medal in front of everyone only because of all my well-wishers who have backed me financially and my coach Jayanth Reddy. It was a great tournament and while I’m a bit disappointed about missing out on gold, this has been a tremendous learning experience for me and will help me improve further for my future tournaments,” says Deepak, adding, “I’m not going to settle for silver. Jaydeep Kadam has been teaching taekwondo to underprivileged kids for free at a municipal school in Chembur, Mumbai, since 2013; over 70 children attend his classes now, and he aims to open his own martial arts school soon. And  martial arts  are a very popular and  effective form of self-defence,  especially when learnt at a young age. Organisers reveal arena set-up for World Taekwondo Championships in Manchester

Organisers of this year's World Taekwondo Championships in Manchester have revealed images of the venue set-up for the first time. The sport's flagship competition will be held in the English city between May 15 and 19 with action taking place at the Manchester Arena. It is claimed the Arena will be home to an "eye-catching and colourful lay-out". During day sessions, seven courts will be set-up as athletes contest knock-out rounds. These mats will feature the event's slogan of "a time to inspire, a time to thrill" while digital boards will display the scores. In the evening sessions, the Arena will switch to "show court" mode when lights will be dimmed to intensify the atmosphere. Competing athletes will have their images flown high next to a large digital display screen showing all the match action, as the competition reaches the medal stage. Odisha Youth In 17-Member Indian Team For World Taekwondo Championship

Sonepur: Odisha’s Ehsaas Hota has been selected as the first and the only player from Odisha in the 17-member Indian team to take part in the World Taekwondo Chamspionship President’s Cup beginning on February 28 in Iran. He will also take part in the 30th Fajr Open Taekwondo Championship in Iran. Players from as many as 46 countries will compete in the elite martial art championships of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). While the President’s Cup will kick off on February 28 and end on March 3 at Olympic Sports Square in the Iranian island of Kish, 30th Fajr Open will be organised on March 4 and 5. Earlier in May 2018, Ehsaas had won two gold medals at 2nd Kathmandu International Taekwondo Championship in Nepal.
